Most gala dinners ask you to dress up, eat four courses and go home slightly fuller than you meant to. The one at Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort asks exactly the same, then sends the money somewhere you can actually find on a map.
Last year, the resort’s first charity gala, An Evening of Elegance & Empathy, raised IDR 500,000,000 (about USD 30,000) for Bali Life Foundation. By July 2026, that money had become a new school in Southwest Sumba, with walls, a roof and children in it. That is a better return than most of us get from a night out in Nusa Dua.
So on 11 December, they are doing it again.

The night itself
This year’s gala, the resort’s 2nd Annual Charity Gala Dinner, is called An Evening of Purpose & Possibility, and it runs from 6pm to 10pm in the Kecak Ballroom. The format is pleasingly simple: a four-course dinner, free-flow wines, live music and a live charity auction, with luxury stays, curated experiences and exclusive items going under the hammer.
The room will be a mix of Bali’s business and hospitality community, philanthropists, government representatives, media and a few familiar faces from Instagram. Judging by last year’s photos, people make an effort, so this is not the night for your good flip-flops.
The auction is the part to plan for. Free-flow wine and a room full of good causes are a generous combination, and it is worth deciding on a limit before the second glass rather than after it. I offer this advice with the confidence of someone who has rarely followed it.
Where last year’s money went
This is the bit that makes the evening more than a nice dinner. The IDR 500 million raised last year helped build a new school in Southwest Sumba, which was officially inaugurated in July 2026. What began as a fundraiser is now, in the resort’s words, “a permanent space where children can learn and build their future.” It is rare to see a gala total turn into a building quite so quickly, and nice to see the photos.
Jean-Pierre Joncas, General Manager of Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort, put it simply: “Last year’s gala showed us what can happen when people come together with a shared purpose. We saw that generosity turn into something tangible, a school that will serve children and the community for years to come. That experience inspired us to continue the journey. This year, we hope to bring even more people together and create another chapter where purpose becomes possibility.”
Where this year’s money goes
Tickets are IDR 1,500,000++ per person, and 100% of ticket proceeds go to Bali Life Foundation to support its ongoing programmes for children, women and families in need. The same goes for everything else raised on the night, including sponsorships, donations and every winning bid at the auction. For the price of a good dinner with wine in Nusa Dua, which is roughly what you would spend anyway, that is a fair trade.
Making a night of it
Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort sits right on the beach in Nusa Dua, and after four courses and free-flow wine, a room upstairs is a much more appealing idea than the drive home. If you are coming from further afield, it is worth asking about a stay when you book your table
