wellness retreats are having a moment – especially on the island of Bali where there are so many inspiring options. So whether you’re craving a wellness weekender, a rustic getaway, a luxury yoga retreat, or a serious cleanse to get you back on track, here’s our tried and tested recommendations for 2017.
Running from the middle of June thru til July 8th, the centre is currently playing host to the 39th Bali Art Festival; a vibrant smorgasbord of events that include Legong and Barong dances, colourful art and sculpture exhibits, traditional music performances, Wayang Kulit shadow puppet shows and our favourite – the fabulous ‘kuliner’ food court section. This being an exclusively Balinese affair, foodies can expect some of the most authentic local dishes around like sizzling pork sate, shredded ayam (chicken) betutu and chunks of suckling pig to name but a few, so make sure to arrive with an appetite.
This small coastal town grew up around a fresh water lotus lagoon. But as tourist development raced, the ocean reef was mined for building material to feed construction and thus the beach disappeared. The result now is a sleepy hideaway far from tourist flocks and perfectly positioned to explore the resplendent regency of Karangasem.

Last weekend, me and my friends visited the Gili’s. I was sooo excited because everyone is always talking about those islands and I had never been there before. Time to check it out! We […]
The water surrounding the beautiful little islands of Southwest Lombok is still, clear and absolutely beautiful for swimming, snorkeling or diving. The natural environment is still largely untouched. This year expect additional new stages including a live music offering, alongside their immersive and interactive events. Sunsets, sunrises and more Gili Air (meaning water island) treats will be available too.
Attached or single, there’s always time to celebrate love. Valentine’s Day may be commercialised but at the heart of it love rules. Say it with hearts, flowers, music, intimate dining, a couples spa treatment or a damn good bash, Bali is playing your song on February 14.

Great locations are where Scallywags begins. Their island paradises on both Gili Air and Gili Trawangan have enviable locations, where the sea laps at the tables, the view is endless and the powdery white sand sticks to your toes. The Scallywags nightly barbecue selection is legendary, a carry over from their first successful restaurant in Bali, Echo Beach. Choose from fresh seafood, steaks, kebabs and ribs, which are all barbecued to order. Sample a lively mix of salads, top it off with freshly baked bread and savour a beach bbq that tops all others.
