Bokashi Pererenan brings a gentle sense of Japanese whimsy to the heart of Pererenan, blending a tea house, robatayaki bar, and sustainable grocery under one serene roof. The name itself comes from the Japanese word for “fermented organic matter,” reflecting the brand’s commitment to giving new life to what is often overlooked. Here, nothing goes to waste; every ingredient and every detail is part of a thoughtful cycle.
The philosophy draws from Japanese movements like wabi-sabi, embracing simplicity, imperfection, and the natural passage of time. This sensibility is paired with Indonesian ingredients and local heritage, creating a dining experience that feels both grounded and quietly poetic. From the ceramics crafted by Kevala in Sanur to the soft palette of the interiors, everything is understated, refined, and soothing.
Upstairs, the café and tea house is a peaceful hideaway where Japanese and Indonesian influences meet. Expect fine teas, quality coffees, and ingredients served with a sense of ceremony but without the pretension. Their tea selection evolves throughout the year, always striking a balance between unique and approachable, whether in flavour or price. Many of these teas, spices, and dry goods are available to take home.
Downstairs, the dining experience shifts to a more elevated rhythm. The robatayaki bar showcases traditional Japanese grilling using fresh, locally sourced ingredients, while the lunch and dinner menus highlight health-forward dishes shaped by produce from LYD Organic farm in Bedugul. A tranquil garden and pool area gives the entire space a soft, retreat-like feel — a quiet pause from Pererenan’s bustle.
Beyond dining, Bokashi’s commitment to sustainability continues in its on-site grocery store. Shelves are lined with organic produce, pantry staples, and goods made with a respect for the land and the people who cultivate it.
Bokashi Pererenan is a harmonious blend of Japanese-inspired dining, mindful retail, and calm everyday luxury. A place to linger, sip, taste, and rediscover the beauty of simplicity.
