Kepitu Restaurant Karangasem is the main restaurant at The Kayon Gangga Resort in Tirta Gangga, East Bali, and the view is the first thing you’ll notice. The open-air bamboo pavilion looks out over 180 degrees of rice terraces and gardens, and on clear evenings you can see the ocean in the distance.
This corner of the island is home to Mount Agung and the sacred springs of Tirta Gangga, and the restaurant leans into that setting. The idea is simple: food and hospitality shaped by the place around it, with guests invited to take part rather than just watch.
What to Eat at Kepitu Restaurant Karangasem
The menu centres on Balinese and Indonesian cooking, with international dishes on the side for anyone who wants something familiar. What makes it interesting is how much of it draws on the region’s own food culture, so you’re eating dishes that belong to this part of Bali rather than a generic island menu.
The one to order is Bebek Kayon, the signature duck dish. Duck holds a special place in Balinese cooking, usually saved for ceremonies and celebrations, and it’s the dish the kitchen is proudest of.
The pavilion is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Mornings are quiet, with the rice terraces still catching the early light. Lunch is easy and unhurried, and dinner brings the full experience, with daily live entertainment and cultural performances as the evening goes on.
A Space Made for Gathering
The bamboo architecture gives the space a warm, open feel, and it works just as well for a couple as for a big table. The resort also hosts group dinners and private events, so contact the team ahead if you’re planning a celebration in East Bali.
Planning Your Visit to Kepitu Restaurant Karangasem
Tirta Gangga is around two to two and a half hours’ drive from the south of Bali, so it works best as part of a day trip to the east or an overnight stay in the area. The roads get quieter the further east you go, and the drive itself is part of the experience, with rice fields and small villages along the way.
If you’re coming for the view, aim for late afternoon, when the light over the terraces is softer. For lunch, ask for a table at the edge of the pavilion for the widest look across the fields.
To make a full day of it, visit the Tirta Gangga water palace in the morning, have lunch here, then head to Wanna Gangga, the resort’s pool and bar, for a cocktail by the two-layer infinity pool as the sun goes down. Stay on, and you can come back for dinner and the evening performances.
Why Kepitu Restaurant Karangasem Is Worth the Trip
East Bali doesn’t have the restaurant density of Ubud or Seminyak, and that makes a place like this stand out. It pairs the kind of view people travel east for with a menu that actually reflects the region.
During the opening period, the restaurant is offering 30% off all food and non-alcoholic drinks, plus an IDR 50,000 voucher for your next visit. If you’re heading east, it’s a good time to go.
